Ibiza Town (Eivissa in Catalan) is the island’s capital and the part that least resembles its party-town image: a walled old town on a hill, a harbour with a fishing quarter, an urban beach and, just a few minutes away, orange groves and traditional farmhouses.
Climbing the slopes of Dalt Vila every night is quite different from stepping down to the sand from your apartment. We look at the neighbourhoods and suggest places to stay that we hand-pick; you can find the rest among places to stay in Ibiza Town.
Which area to choose in Ibiza Town
The city is compact, and you can get almost everywhere on foot. Here are its main areas:
- Dalt Vila and es Molins: the walled old town and the small beach below it. Ideal for evening walks around the historic centre, though there are hills.
- La Marina and Sa Penya: the harbour quarter, with shops, bars and the ferry terminal. Lively until late in summer.
- Figueretes: an urban beach with a seafront promenade, a 15-minute walk from Vara de Rey. The best all-round option for families.
- The outskirts: country estates and villas among orchards, a few kilometres from the centre. Peace and a pool, but you’ll need a car.
Without a car, Figueretes or the area around Dalt Vila make things easy; for exploring the island, choose a country estate, and if you’re drawn to the nightlife, neighbouring Playa d'en Bossa is just a short distance away.
Where to stay in Ibiza Town: places we recommend
We’ve included options in the centre, by the beach and in the countryside, so you can choose based on how you travel. These are the six places we recommend.
Hostal Marblau Ibiza
At the foot of Dalt Vila, with es Molins beach 130 metres away and balcony rooms overlooking the sea; the 50 m² suite also has a living room. Downsides: there’s no parking, free Wi-Fi is limited to the common areas, and you need to let the property know your arrival time.
Sud Ibiza Suites
A four-star property opposite Figueretes beach, with studios featuring terraces and sea views, plus two-bedroom apartments for up to five people. There’s a fully equipped kitchen, a gym, a hot tub on the terrace and free bicycles. Parking is paid and must be booked, and the large apartment faces the city, not the sea.
Apartaments B-Llobet Sun & Confort
One- and two-bedroom apartments 50 metres from the sand at Figueretes, suitable for families or groups of up to five. The pool and gym are in the building opposite, and breakfast includes gluten-free options. Parking costs extra and can’t be reserved, so it’s worth coming without a car.
Can Jaume by Ocean Drive
A renovated old farmhouse among orange groves, with a pool and rooms with terraces, close to the historic centre yet surrounded by countryside quiet. There’s free private parking, and you can ask for the buffet breakfast to take away. Note that breakfast costs extra, and the nearest beach, Talamanca, is almost three kilometres away.
Can Arabí - Adults Only
For adults only, from 16 years old, and surrounded by orange and olive groves: a place to unwind after a day at the beach or in the city. The buffet breakfast is included, there’s an outdoor pool with a hot tub, and parking is free on site. Free Wi-Fi is available in the common areas, but not in the rooms.
Can Pep Gibert
A detached villa for families or groups of up to seven, with four bedrooms, a private pool and a terrace with sea views. The coves of Es Bol Nou and Sa Caleta are just over a kilometre away, and the kitchen is fully equipped. Parties and stag or hen dos aren’t allowed, and you need to arrange your arrival in advance; check-in is from 16:00 to 22:00.
What to see in Ibiza Town
The heart of the city is Dalt Vila, the upper town, enclosed by 16th-century Renaissance walls. From the Portal de ses Taules, climb through narrow whitewashed streets to the Cathedral and the castle, with views over the harbour and Formentera. Together with the Phoenician-Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins and the seagrass meadows, it forms part of the site declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
Below, La Marina and Sa Penya retain their fishermen’s houses, now home to shops and terraces, while the Vara de Rey promenade serves as the city’s living room. For a day trip, Formentera is a short boat ride from the harbour, and Santa Eulària des Riu is about twenty minutes away by road.
When to visit: seasons and festivals
Book early for June to September; May and October are ideal for strolling around Dalt Vila without the crowds, and unlike other parts of the island, the capital stays lively in winter.
Each May, the Eivissa Medieval fair fills the historic centre with craft stalls and performances over a long weekend. The Festes de la Terra take place in early August: on the 5th, the feast day of Santa Maria, there are services in the Cathedral and concerts at Vara de Rey, and on the night of the 8th, fireworks over the harbour.
How to get there and get around
The airport is about seven kilometres away. The Aero3 express goes straight to the city, Aero2 stops at the bus station (CETIS) and the harbour, and from May 2026, the new Aero5 will connect the terminal with Platja d'en Bossa and Figueretes. Buses to the rest of the island also leave from CETIS.
If you’re planning to bring your car over by ferry in summer, the Consell d'Eivissa limits the number of vehicles entering the island and requires advance authorisation during the season. You don’t need a car in the city, and parking near Dalt Vila is difficult. Find information on flights and boats in our guide to getting to Ibiza.

Frequently asked questions
Here are the questions that come up most often when planning a few days in Ibiza’s capital.
What is the best area to stay in Ibiza Town?
It depends on how you travel. Figueretes is the best all-round option: an urban beach, apartments with kitchens, a bus to the airport and a 15-minute walk to the centre. The area around Dalt Vila and es Molins is ideal for evening strolls around the historic centre, though there are hills. La Marina, by the harbour, is noisy in summer. Country estates on the outskirts offer peace and a pool, but you’ll need a car.
Can you stay in Ibiza Town without a car?
Yes, and that’s one of its advantages. You can explore the centre, Dalt Vila, La Marina and Figueretes on foot, and several bus routes, including an express service, connect the city to the airport and the rest of the island. In summer, the Consell d'Eivissa also limits the number of cars coming from outside the island and requires advance authorisation, so it’s best to rent one for a day or two.
Is it better to stay in Ibiza Town or Playa d'en Bossa?
The city offers a historic centre, restaurants, year-round activity and quiet urban beaches such as Figueretes and es Molins. Playa d'en Bossa, just to the south, is a long beach lined with large hotels and the island’s best-known clubs. If you’re after culture and walks, stay in the capital; if you plan to go out every night, Playa d'en Bossa saves you the journey.
What festivals are there in Ibiza Town?
The two main events are Eivissa Medieval and the Festes de la Terra. Every May, the former fills Dalt Vila with craft stalls and performances over a long weekend. The Festes de la Terra, in early August, are the city’s festivities: on the 5th, the patron saint is honoured with services in the Cathedral and concerts at Vara de Rey, and on the night of the 8th there are fireworks over the harbour.
Which places to stay in Ibiza Town are good for families?
The aparthotels in Figueretes are the most convenient: they have kitchens, two-bedroom apartments for up to five people and the beach just a few steps away. Options include Apartaments B-Llobet Sun & Confort and Sud Ibiza Suites. If you’re a larger group or want your own pool, Can Pep Gibert is a four-bedroom villa for up to seven people, close to several coves. Bear in mind that Can Arabí only accepts guests aged 16 and over.
